December 10, 1741
John Murray comes to Boston on October 26, 1773 to serve as pastor of the School Street Church. Initially, his preaching of the doctrine of universal salvation proves so controversial that stones are thrown through the building’s windows. But Murray subsequently comes to be known as “The Father of Universalism.” He becomes pastor of the First Universalist Church in 1795 [1793] and remains in that position until 1809. Murray dies on September 3, 1815.
